B) RESEARCH INTERESTS AND CURRENT PROJECTS
My main research interests is on the fate of trace metals in the environment; these metals are found in very low levels in the environment. Some of them are necessary for nutrition and physiology, but higher quantities of these metals can become toxic. Releasing these kinds of trace metals into the environment can occur naturally, or due to human activities including but not limited to certain types of mining, and burning coal.
My current projects involved the analysis of trace metals pollution in soil and water associated with an e-waste mine in Ghana. And my primary focus is on the analysis of occupational exposure to mercury in artisanal and small gold mines . My main project is to generate a simple, repeatable, cost effective method to analyze occupational Hg exposure. This test would ideally be used in countries where financial resources are scarce.
