B) RESEARCH INTERESTS AND CURRENT PROJECTS
The recent advances in engineered nanoparticles, such as cadmium-based quantum dots (QDs) has propelled the production of thin-film displays used in our computer/smart phone/and TV screens. If not properly recycled, these Cd-based QDs have the potential to be released in the environment. Cadmium is a persistent pollutant known to bioaccumulate in organisms causing liver and kidney damage.
My current research interests focus on assessing the toxicity of Cd-based QDs found in LCD screens on zebrafish (Danio rerio) using relevant endpoints (Cd uptake, enzyme activity, gene expression, cell viability). This study have the potential to increase our knowledge on the toxicity of these new technologies; and attempt to proactively drive better recycling requirements.

F) WHEN I AM NOT IN THE LAB
You will find me on a dance floor! Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Samba, Joneeba, Sabar ... you name it! I am a dancer trained in ballet, contemporary and African-rooted dance forms. My passion for dance focuses mainly on de-colonizing ‘formal’ techniques by using body movements and undulations that consciously break the rules.
I am a dance teacher, choreographer and art consultant. I performed at the Precarious ArtWORK Festival and ReFrame Film Festival in Peterborough, Ontario.
