B) RESEARCH INTERESTS AND CURRENT PROJECTS
I
am interested in studying contaminant-related stress in organisms across neurochemical
pathways and genetic approaches. In Basu’s lab, I’m working on neuroendocrine targets of chemicals acting as endocrine disruptors in fish. The
neuroendocrine system, as the link between the brain and peripheral endocrine
systems, plays a critical role in the ability of organisms to reproduce. In
this purpose, we aim to develop new and predictive strategies based on developing
and applying in vitro toxicity assays to predict cellular level effects that
could be extrapolated to effects on individuals.
During my PhD and postdoctoral research in France, I was studying the recovery capabilities of biological components of a Cd- and Zn-impacted hydrosystem - bivalves, diatomic biofilms and fish - after remediation of an industrial site. My study aimed to look for relevant bioindicators which would highlight an eventual hydrosystem restoration. In this purpose I realized metal bioaccumulation analyses, diatom community inventories and I assessed the induction of metallothioneins and genes involved against metal stress.
